A Sacred Cacao Ceremony is a communal celebration and ceremony centered around consuming the sacred plant medicine cacao (kə-ˈkau̇).
Drinking ceremonial cacao is an ancient tradition celebrated by indigenous cultures in South and Central America for over 5,000 years.
The ceremony is led by a facilitator (myself) with in-depth and intimate knowledge of the plant spirit and experience working with cacao. As a facilitator, I am responsible for creating and holding a sacred space to consume the ceremonial cacao beverage.
Participants (receivers) gather in a circle to drink and celebrate in a communal setting. Song, music, drumming, and guided meditation are incorporated into the ceremony to guide participants in gaining access to their inner wisdom and connecting with plant medicine. A dedication and an expression of gratitude are offered to the plant's spirit. After some time, and as the effects of the plant medicine are felt, more time to reflect in silence is provided. Before closing the ceremony (circle), receivers can ask questions or share their experience.
Participants typically express feelings of bliss, new awareness, an expansion of the heart center, well-being, and greater self-love and love for others.
I facilitate monthly Sacred Cacao Ceremonies at Verapose Yoga & Meditation House in Dexter, Michigan.
